Theme: Transferring Earth to the Body

Henna embodies cultural identity using a natural resource as semi-permanent body art.
Media: Henna paste
Method: Hand drawn; improv design
Process: I’ve been practicing henna for 6 years. I study sources for inspiration, and then spontaneously create my design without the ability to edit imperfections.
Significance: I honor this ancient art form that has been practiced for 5,000 years. In the modern day, it is a form of self-expression and adornment. The concept of using natural materials to decorate the body is a celebration of nature. It is a cultural practice that enables creative liberty and is tangible yet impermanent.
